Cover & Solicit 4/5

This issues cover is drawn by Stjepan Sejic (Witchblade, Cyber Force and Army of Darkness), who also does the interior art and colors. It's a pretty simple cover with Aphrodite XV we saw at the end of the last issue. The art on this cover seems a little dull compared to Sejic's past work, and I'm wondering if this is something to do with Top Cow's printing as Artifacts #33 suffered from the same issue. I unfortunately didn't get a chance to see the B cover by Linda Luksic Sejic before this review.

Art, Colors & Inking 4/5

Like the last issue Sejic has changed his art style for the second arc of the book.Again I really enjoy this style of his as well, but I still wish there was a little more detail. There is so much mechanical elements in the book and I feel the mechanized art fell a little short on that. Otherwise he does a great job with facial expressions and his double page spreads are breathtaking and well executed.

Layout & Flow 4/5

The flow of this issue was very good as usual. We are primarily jumping between the Aphrodites and Marcus. We do have a single segway with the Sparos and who I assume is Birch looking for statis pods for Jazabel. The hopping around doesn't distract too much but I did find the jump at the beginning from the Aphrodites to Marcus and back a little jaunting as it seemed some story was missing. As I mentioned Sejic's art and layouts are great and are easy to follow (again I read digital, so as long as your viewing the book correctly as a double page layout).

Story 5/5

Matt Hawkins is still taking the reigns of this volume and is doing an excellent job of telling the story, and conveying emotion of the characters. This issue continues a new story arc with Aphrodite IX in the Wastelands with Aphrodite XV. At the start we find Marcus on the attack against the Sparos. Matt does a great job of showing the religious aspect of the Gens and how it shapes the way they live their lives. Next we are taken to the Aphrodites where XV is doing some diagnostics on IX. She notices the damage to her head that IX inflicted on herself to disconnect her from Birch's control. XV states that her cybernetics will repair soon just as her bio did. Not wanting to return to that life of being controlled IX and XV set out to stop Birch by going to Sparos City. This was the one part of the flow that messed with me, as it seems the decision occurred off panel while Matt takes us back to Marcus. While not a major issue, it did seem odd when I read it. Again Matt leave us with another cliffhanger at the end of the issue when another IX is discovered.

Verdict - 4.4 (9/10) (Buy Aphrodite IXSAVE 10%

I have enjoyed Aphrodite IX's reboot since issue #1 and this issue is no exception. Sejic's art is beautiful, and Hawkins does an outstanding job of telling a story and creating this unique world of cyber vs genetics. I highly recommend you check this book out.
