Wacky Wizard Games Imprint and Three New Games Announced by @wwizardgames

Image
Wise Wizard Games announced the launch of Wacky Wizard Games, a new brand imprint focused on family-friendly, lightweight games. Three games are planned for release in 2024 as part of this new brand imprint: Star Realms Academy, Caution Signs, and Pack the Essentials. If you are interested and attending PAX Unplugged they will have prototypes of Caution Signs and Pack the Essentials. "We are super excited to be adding this new family friendly product line to our catalog. We wanted to maintain the focus of Wise Wizard Games on strategy card and dice games with geeky themes, and have created Wacky Wizard Games as an umbrella for lightweight games with a more whimsical, cute vibe," shared Debbie Moynihan, COO of Wise Wizard Games. Star Realms Academy Forge your own star realms, overloaded with cuteness! A kid friendly but still fun for grown-ups version of the popular Star Realms deckbuilding game for 2 players. A little less math, no reading necessary, but still tons of fun!

Cover & Solicit 4/5

This issues cover is drawn by the awesome Marc Silvestri. It depicts Ripclaw in the final clings of live as he reaches out for his already dead family.

Art, Colors & Inking 4/5

Like last issue, the art was done by Marco Turini (Squadron Supreme, Ant Unleashed) who took over for Marc Silvestri. Marco's art again has me on the fence. The characters look good, and he draws the techno-cybernetics great but there seems to be a lack of detail. I'm also not a fan of the coloring done by both Andy Troy (Spawn, Wolverine Origins) in this issue. For a lot of the issue the colors came off really dark, while other times the colors vivid and well done. I had a really hard time telling the time of day in the issue because of this, in one scene it was bright but in another it seemed overpowered by shadows and ark colors. While it seems like I don't like the art it's not horrible and still very appealing.

Layout & Flow 5/5

I really appreciate that Top Cow takes the time to put in the little previous issue pages. While yes it does take one page away from the comic it helps not only new readers get involved but also everyone else as this is a bi-monthly title, meaning it's been a whole month since we last read issue 7. The pacing throughout was great and easy to follow. I enjoyed how this issue slowed down a little bit and provided more backstory and information on the characters, considering this a reboot most of their history is completely different from the original Top Cow run.

Story 5/5

Marc Silvestri (Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine, The Darkness) still takes on the writing duties for this issue. This issue starts with a flashback to Killjoy's origin and how she is associated with Cyber Data. Marc does a nice job or introducing her new origin, and also shows a history with Ripclaw and how they met the first time. I did find one part of the origin a little odd, and that's the part where Killjoy says her implant is a mint and a member of the infiltration team actually sucks on it, I mean wouldn't he have noticed immediately that it wasn't a mint? Oh well minor point. Marc doesn't tell the whole story as we see Killjoy cut in half during her air battle with Ripclaw, but we don't see how she arrived back in the hands of Cyber Data, leading me to believe we will get more flashbacks in the coming issues. We are then taken back to present day, where Killjoy continues to escape the Cyber Data bio lab, and the Cyber Force team has already escaped to a nearby rooftop. Unfortunately not all the members got out unscathed as Ripclaw's run-in with Dolorossa in the last issue has left him on deaths door. If the team can't get more serum quick Ripclaw will die. Marc also delves more into the interpersonal relationships of Velocity and her father Stryker as well as what appears to be a drug (serum) addicted Ares.  Again I'm just blown away and enjoying this series so much and can't wait for issue 8. If you aren't reading this series you should be.
