Wacky Wizard Games Imprint and Three New Games Announced by @wwizardgames

Image
Wise Wizard Games announced the launch of Wacky Wizard Games, a new brand imprint focused on family-friendly, lightweight games. Three games are planned for release in 2024 as part of this new brand imprint: Star Realms Academy, Caution Signs, and Pack the Essentials. If you are interested and attending PAX Unplugged they will have prototypes of Caution Signs and Pack the Essentials. "We are super excited to be adding this new family friendly product line to our catalog. We wanted to maintain the focus of Wise Wizard Games on strategy card and dice games with geeky themes, and have created Wacky Wizard Games as an umbrella for lightweight games with a more whimsical, cute vibe," shared Debbie Moynihan, COO of Wise Wizard Games. Star Realms Academy Forge your own star realms, overloaded with cuteness! A kid friendly but still fun for grown-ups version of the popular Star Realms deckbuilding game for 2 players. A little less math, no reading necessary, but still tons of fun!

Cover & Solicit 4/5

I liked the covers for this issue. A point of note is that the two retailer incentive variant covers are unrelated to the story but feature other IDW characters. The variants are actually the reason I didn't give it a 4, because if these were bagged and boarded I'd probably think they contained a story about these characters, and not The Transformers.

Art, Colors & Inking 4/5

The art in this issue wasn't bad and the color were great. The biggest gripe I had was the way Matt Frank drew The Transformers jaw lines. They just look big and goofy.

Layout & Flow 4/5

This issue did a good job of telling a story without either franchise requiring back-story. The events take place out of the IDW continuity so as long as you know The Transformers are robots and that the Martians want to take over the world your good to go.

Story 4/5

These are just fun issues. They aren't really meant to be taken seriously and Shane McCarthy throws witty banter and humor throughout the issue. A great example is Buster's yellow rubber boots that he wears during G1 because he worked on an Oil Rig, the General says that's stupid does this look like an oil rig. The boots later come in handy and Buster gets the last laugh on the General who could have used some boots himself. The plot of the issue involves the Autobots finally defeating the Decepticons and the military taking them away to a detention facility. Before the Autobots and humans can rest however they are attacked by Martians. Still injured from their last battle they are no match for the Martians. Optimus determines that they have been waiting for one of the Transformers to eliminate each other so they could invade. During the fight the Decepticons are released from captivity and Megatron forms a pact with the Martians only to be "deceived". We get another humorous moment about the fact that the Decepticons should see this coming considering their name. So what's the planet to do? It's a Hero-Villian Team-Up as the Autobots and the Decepticons work together to rid their new common enemy. This was a great read and a nice one-shot to pass the time. I'd highly recommend it to anyone, Transformers fan, Mars Attacks fan, and even the guy down the street that just reads the Sunday funnies.

Verdict 4
