Wacky Wizard Games Imprint and Three New Games Announced by @wwizardgames

Image
Wise Wizard Games announced the launch of Wacky Wizard Games, a new brand imprint focused on family-friendly, lightweight games. Three games are planned for release in 2024 as part of this new brand imprint: Star Realms Academy, Caution Signs, and Pack the Essentials. If you are interested and attending PAX Unplugged they will have prototypes of Caution Signs and Pack the Essentials. "We are super excited to be adding this new family friendly product line to our catalog. We wanted to maintain the focus of Wise Wizard Games on strategy card and dice games with geeky themes, and have created Wacky Wizard Games as an umbrella for lightweight games with a more whimsical, cute vibe," shared Debbie Moynihan, COO of Wise Wizard Games. Star Realms Academy Forge your own star realms, overloaded with cuteness! A kid friendly but still fun for grown-ups version of the popular Star Realms deckbuilding game for 2 players. A little less math, no reading necessary, but still tons of fun!

Cover & Solicit 4/5

This issue again has two covers, one drawn by the talented Stjepan Sejic (Witchblade, Cyber Force and Army of Darkness), who provides the interior art and colors, and one by his wife Linda Sejic (Myths & Legends). Both covers feature Aphrodite IX and are your basic pin-up style covers, so neither really portray events in the issue. The solicit also doesn't portray anything in the issue as it states this is the conclusion which actually happens next issue, along with the statement that IX gets some vengeance and well she doesn't.

Art, Colors & Inking 4/5

I have really enjoyed Sejic's art from this arc of the series and have nothing to complain about. His images are breathtaking and the colors are vibrant. Sejic also does does a great job with the facial expression and the little background details.

Layout & Flow 4/5

The flow of this issue was very good as usual you can see that Hawkins and Sejic are working well together. This issue is a little slower than prior ones as it seems to be telling the final parts of the story in order to get us to the big finally next issue. Matt is back to using his narrative which is great but I was actually confused by Aphrodite's monologue at first. It took me almost half the issue to realize it was her and not somebody else. At fist I was actually thinking it was Mother. I also still appreciate the Science Class section at the end of the issue, as it allows Matt to give a little more insight into the world of genetic enhancements and cyborgs.

Story 5/5

Matt Hawkins (Cyber Force, Avengelyne, Think Tank) has done an excellent job of telling the story and building on this future world that ties into his Cyber Force volume. This issue starts in the past in 2102 AD with Mother talking to Burch about the creation of the IX models and how Aphrodite IX is obstinate and aggressive. Hawkins then shows us Aphrodite in a sparring session with Ares before being put into statis by Burch. We are then taken back to where we left her last issue, with Aphrodite being captured. While Burch wants to save her, the Speros have other plans and take her to a tribunal. Again it's nice to see layers built on to this world, as we get to see how their law and order system works. Back on Sanctuary I, Hades makes plans to search for their missing (destroyed) Sanctuary XII and Hephaestus IX. This leads me to believe there may be more to this Sanctuary and Hephaestus than we know. Hades then tells Ares to activate his XV models. Back in Speros City the tribunal is discussing Aphrodite's fate, that is until some unexpected guests arrive. With the Gens on the verge of attack, and the new threats that are the XV models, I can't wait for the next issue and the upcoming Aphrodite IX/Cyber Force.

Verdict - 4.4 (9/10) (Buy Aphrodite IXSAVE 10%

Hawkins and Sejic are a great team. This issue continues the great story they are creating for Aphrodite IX, and adds to her history. While this issue was a little slower, it needed to be to tell the remaining story before the epic conclusion next issue. I can't wait for the final issue of this series before we get the Aphrodite IX/Cyber Force crossover. If you aren't Aphrodite IX you should be.
