Cover & Solicit 5/5

For this issue we get treated to two beautiful covers. The first is drawn by John Tyler Christopher (Artifacts, New Mutants, Voodoo) and features a very sexy image of Sara Pezzini without her Witchblade and her arm covered with blood where it would normally be. The second cover is drawn by Stjepan Šejić (Aphrodite IX, Cyber Force, Inhumans) and features Sara with the full Witchblade attached in spectacular detail.

Art, Colors & Inking 4/5

This issues again features the art of newcomier Laura Braga (Cyber Force). Like the last issue the art in this one is pretty good, and I have nothing really to complain about. The colors for the issue were again provided by Betsy Gonia (Cyber Force, Think Tank, Bushido). These two newcomers for Top Cow work great together and bring life to this book.

Layout & Flow 5/5

Witchblade #170 was my first issues that I had read since the 90's, and I was very pleased. Again it's nice that Top Cow continues to have the recap at the beginning of the issue, as it's a nice way to get some info on the series. This issue still feels very new reader friendly, introducing us to some recent events and giving a little background on Sara getting rid of the Witchblade. Again the events take place after what is currently happening in the Darkness and is really the only problem with pacing, I want to know everything, and all we get are little bread crumbs and you really don't know what happened. But on that same note Marz does a good job not to give too much away as the events discussed now will be revealed in this Springs Darkness Falls Event.

Story 5/5

The issue continues the return of Ron Marz (Green Lantern, Artifacts, Silver Surfer). As always he does an excellent job telling the story, and rightfully so as he is probably one of the most influential individuals when it comes to Witchblade lore. This issue continues after the events from last issue with Sara recovering in the hospital after being shot by somebody with a Witchblade style gun. The doctor shows the mayor and other deputies the strange bullet he found and explains Sara is recovering. Ron then flashed us back two years where she is again talking to Magdalena (Patience) who knows of  a way to get rid of the Witchblade. Unlike last issue where we only have a short scene involving Magdalena and Sara this issue is really all about removing the Witchblade. Unfortunately not everything goes as planned. Marz does an awesome job telling the story and getting just the right amount of information and leaving you wanting more. In the final pages we are back in the present with the Sara's deputy heading back to the hospital only to see Sara's life in danger. Not only do we have an unknown assailant but the Angelus shows up as well. Ron did a great job to lead in to the next issue, and I really with it was already next month because now I'm hooked and I want to read the next issue. It's writing like Ron's that I have been missing in comics and I'm looking forward to see what he has planned for Sara, The Witchblade, Jackie, The Darkness, and their future in Darkness Falls. I definitely recommend adding this issue to your Pull-List
