Wacky Wizard Games Imprint and Three New Games Announced by @wwizardgames

Image
Wise Wizard Games announced the launch of Wacky Wizard Games, a new brand imprint focused on family-friendly, lightweight games. Three games are planned for release in 2024 as part of this new brand imprint: Star Realms Academy, Caution Signs, and Pack the Essentials. If you are interested and attending PAX Unplugged they will have prototypes of Caution Signs and Pack the Essentials. "We are super excited to be adding this new family friendly product line to our catalog. We wanted to maintain the focus of Wise Wizard Games on strategy card and dice games with geeky themes, and have created Wacky Wizard Games as an umbrella for lightweight games with a more whimsical, cute vibe," shared Debbie Moynihan, COO of Wise Wizard Games. Star Realms Academy Forge your own star realms, overloaded with cuteness! A kid friendly but still fun for grown-ups version of the popular Star Realms deckbuilding game for 2 players. A little less math, no reading necessary, but still tons of fun!

DC - Batman: Eternal & 75th Anniversary

DC announced they will be adding another Bat title to the mix next year with the 75th Anniversary of the Dark Knight. Eternal will tie into the events of Year Zero and will "alter the status quo for the Dark Knight and his hometown." Scott Snyder will work on the series with artist Jason Fabok and a set of revolving writers including James Tynion IV, John Layman, Ray Fawkes and Tim Seeley.

We will also see a special Detective Comics #27 (the first appearance of Batman was the original Detective Comics #27). The 96-page issue will be on sale January 8. Creators contributing to this will include Paul Dini, Brad Meltzer, Gregg Hurwitz and Peter Tomasi along with artists such as Neal Adams, Dustin Nguyen and Francesco Francavilla. Dynamite - Li'l Dynamites, Dynamite Teasers

Dynamite Entertainment announced a series of all-ages one-shots called Li'l Dynamites. Titles include Red Sonja (Li'l Sonja), Evil Ernie (Li'l Ernie), Battlestar Galactica (Li'l Battlestar Galactica), Vampirella (Li'l Vampi), and Bionic Man & Woman (Li'l Bionic Kids).  Eisner award-winning all-ages writers Roger Langridge, Art Baltazar, and Franco join veteran Dynamite authors Jim Zub, Brandon Jerwa, and Eric Trautmann on the five-week event.

We were also treated to several teasers by creators Greg Pak, Fred Van Lente, Frank Barbiere, & Mark Waid. The teasers read What Is The Key? The Terrors Return, The Future Fights Back, The Power Consumes, The Nightmares Are Real. Rich Johnston at Bleeding Cool believes one of them is about the return of Solar, Man Of The Atom. The true meanings will be revealed this weekend.

Dark Horse - Buffy Season 10, Aliens, Predator & Prometheus

Dark Horse had a teaser for Buffy Season 10 last week. Now along we know that Christos Gage and Rebekah Isaacs will take on Buffy, while Victor Gischler and Will Conrad will take on Angel & Faith, with Joss Whedon overseeing all.

Dark Horse also had some news about the Alien, Predator, & Prometheus franchise. They plan to release all four titles in 2014; Aliens (by Chris Roberson), Predators (by Joshua Williamson), Alien vs. Predator (by Chris Sebela) and Prometheus (by Paul Tobin). You can read more at Bleeding Cool, and Comic Vine.

Comixology - Survey

Comixology had an interesting survey they performed showing the curious habits of digital comic readers. The survey shows the average spend per reader is $100 per year. Depending on individual comic cost, this only comes out to one or two comics for every two weeks. A quarter of respondents spend an average of $400 or more per year on digital comics, averaging about $7.69 or 2-3 comics per week. Last month, comiXology announced the company had surpassed 200 million downloads, just one year after celebrating the 100 million mark. You can read the full article at Bleeding Cool.

Comixology also talked about Connecting with the female audience. Six years ago, women represented less than 5 percent of comiXology users; now that figure has rocketed to 20 percent. What’s more, the company knows exactly who this reader is: “She’s 17-26 years old, college-educated, lives in the suburbs, and is new to comics. She prefers Tumblr to Reddit. She may have never even picked up a print comic.”

What the digital comic industry needs to do next. Declaring that “the mainstreaming of digital publishing is nearly complete,” veteran technology writer Andy Ihnatko outlines three major steps the industry still needs to take: a move by Dark Horse to comiXology; the adoption of ePUB as an industry standard; and the abandonment of digital rights management.

Titan - New Titles and Classic Reprints

Last but not least our friends across the pond at Titan Comics announced a wave of brand-new series and classic graphic novel editions coming in the months ahead. The rollout includes books by the likes of Rob Williams, D’Israeli, Peter Milligan, Arthur Suydam, Simon Bisley. New series include the anti-superhero series "Ordinary" by the returning team of Williams and D’Israeli as well as the grindhouse-esque "Sally Of The Wasteland" by Victor Gischler and artist Tazio Bettin.
