Wacky Wizard Games Imprint and Three New Games Announced by @wwizardgames

Image
Wise Wizard Games announced the launch of Wacky Wizard Games, a new brand imprint focused on family-friendly, lightweight games. Three games are planned for release in 2024 as part of this new brand imprint: Star Realms Academy, Caution Signs, and Pack the Essentials. If you are interested and attending PAX Unplugged they will have prototypes of Caution Signs and Pack the Essentials. "We are super excited to be adding this new family friendly product line to our catalog. We wanted to maintain the focus of Wise Wizard Games on strategy card and dice games with geeky themes, and have created Wacky Wizard Games as an umbrella for lightweight games with a more whimsical, cute vibe," shared Debbie Moynihan, COO of Wise Wizard Games. Star Realms Academy Forge your own star realms, overloaded with cuteness! A kid friendly but still fun for grown-ups version of the popular Star Realms deckbuilding game for 2 players. A little less math, no reading necessary, but still tons of fun!

Cover & Solicit 5/5

Once again we are treated to a beautiful cover drawn by the extremely talented Jessada Sutthi of Studio HIVE who also does the art for the issue.

Art, Colors & Inking 4/5

As I mentioned in my previous reviews for Bushido, the art that Jessada produces is extremely well done and a treat to the eyes. He gives each page excellent attention to detail and makes the book almost come alive in your hands. In this issue I did find some of the imagery a little dark, but otherwise it was on par with the prior issues.

Layout & Flow 4/5

The book had a very good flow to it. I did have a little issue at the beginning of the issue with the interaction between the Lord Vampire and Orochi, but it eventually smoothed itself out. The flow from image to image and page to page is excellently done due to both Jessada's art and the flow of dialogue and monologue that Levin provides for the story. I was also thrown by the events at the Imperial Palace at first as it daytime while it was night in the prior scene. Then it was night or dawn again with sun rise, and again it went back to night as the battle started. I did however enjoy the pacing of the battle scenes as they felt fluid and didn't seem rushed.

Story 5/5

What can I say I'm enjoying Rob Levin's (Mind the Gap, Witchblade, Darkness) Samurai vs. Vampire epic, and he does an excellent job telling the story. We continue this issue shortly after the last with Kichiro being taken to see the Shogun, and Orochi already escaping with the capture Mitsuko. We get a little more information on the vampires with the interaction between the Lord Vampire and Orochi. As I mentioned the pacing seemed a little off as it appears that the Vampire was just using Orochi, but it eventually becomes clear and Orochi joins him to defeat the Samurai. When we find ourselves back at the Imperial Palace the Samurai are about to go on a rescue mission assigned to them by the Shogun. The good news, Kichiro is now a full Samurai, the bad, it took the death of his father, and the turning of his brother to become one. Now the all out battle for the face of Mitsuko, the Samurai, and Japan are at stake as they do battle with the undead plague that is the Vampires who want to rule the earth. I can't wait for the final chapter of this epic story that Levin has written.
