Wacky Wizard Games Imprint and Three New Games Announced by @wwizardgames

Image
Wise Wizard Games announced the launch of Wacky Wizard Games, a new brand imprint focused on family-friendly, lightweight games. Three games are planned for release in 2024 as part of this new brand imprint: Star Realms Academy, Caution Signs, and Pack the Essentials. If you are interested and attending PAX Unplugged they will have prototypes of Caution Signs and Pack the Essentials. "We are super excited to be adding this new family friendly product line to our catalog. We wanted to maintain the focus of Wise Wizard Games on strategy card and dice games with geeky themes, and have created Wacky Wizard Games as an umbrella for lightweight games with a more whimsical, cute vibe," shared Debbie Moynihan, COO of Wise Wizard Games. Star Realms Academy Forge your own star realms, overloaded with cuteness! A kid friendly but still fun for grown-ups version of the popular Star Realms deckbuilding game for 2 players. A little less math, no reading necessary, but still tons of fun!

Cover & Solicit 4/5

I like what they are doing with this series covers so far. Each appears to be an homage to a classic teenage death-match/survival movie. The first issues cover was for a movie called Battle Royale, this of course is for Lord of the Flies. Most variant covers I like but this one I personally believe should have been with the first issue, and also Hazmat's suit is the wrong color meaning this is probably Cammie.

Art, Colors & Inking 5/5

Like the last issue the art in this title is amazing. It's probably one of the few things other reviewers who are not enjoying the series and I agree on. The colors pop, and there is plenty of detail.

Layout & Flow 5/5

The issue does a good job of transitioning from the present back to Deathlocket's origin. I also feel that they did a good job of explaining her past without putting in too much information or too little and rushing.

Story 5/5

And another hero falls. The issue starts off with another heroes death in the first 3 pages. Luckily it's some random new character that really had no face-time prior and you might not even care that it happened. This issue primarily introduces some of the new characters in the series. The main characters is Deathlocket (Rebecca Ryker) and who she is and how she acquired Deathlock cybernetic enhancements. It turns out her father is Harlan Ryker the inventor of Deathlock. After a Deathlock comes from the future to destroy him and his technology Rebecca is severely injured and required major cybernetic surgery. We are also introduced to the kids of the Braddock Academy, a British version of Avengers Academy. They mentioned the members and a little about them, but I hope they expand more in the future. It's nice to see them put some thought into the new characters and hopefully this continues. For whatever reason other reviewers are not enjoying this book, but for me it's a must read.

Verdict 4.9
